A Man's Conviction

Written by Faye Lee (@24leaf)

Replace me with disingenuity, label me with lust.

Lay my cadaver against your butchers block

and strip me of all that once dignified my being.

Press down your blade against my carcass

—Insatiable,

yet attempting to satisfy these innermost carnal desires you dare describe as human nature.

Over the ridges of my ribs,

trailing the scars on my skin,

deeper

and deeper

and—

Quietly I lay,

as I listen to the buckling of your belt

and the ruffling of your now stained shirt,

as you eagerly force each button into their slits.

The tranquility of dusk mocks my now apparent rigour mortis.

And by dawn I shall be merely your own conviction.

And remorseless—you will leave me here to rot,

as I forget my own humanity.
