Brand new Diamond Ring
Written By: Milena Milovanovic
Cruelty and hatred,
Angels with Vices,
Do you know what we live for?
Do you know what the price is?
Sell me dreams I’m the type to buy them, all your drugs, well I might just try them.
Break my heart and I won’t blink,
Sleepless night, mind on the brink,
Do you know that I live for love? a language dead, foreign to you.
Because you live just to get high, to you my words don't mean a thing,
And nobody can take away my brand new Diamond ring.
Heaven or hazard,
Paradise fleeting ,
Is there a place we can go to?
Is there a stranger worth meeting?
Catch my eye, pretty things are what I look for glamour, greed, a mother turned whore.
A Moment now, no time to think,
Tattooed on my soul veins filled with ink,
There is something worth knowing, something free, worth caring about.
But you won't travel blindly,
Our love won't mean a thing,
And I know that you won't ever buy me a brand new diamond ring.
Silver daggers,
Struggling models,
How much can you spit out?
How much can you swallow?
Ugly truths, ribbons and lace, cat eyed beauties only time can replace.
Kiss me soft my heart will sink,
Salty tears blushed cheeks turned pink,
How do you spend your nights, alone? Do you think about what we once had?
But I know you still mock my vanity,
Say my looks don’t mean a thing,
And no such beauty could distract from my brand new diamond ring.
If you want the world, It's yours
It's a man's world, don't you think.
City lights, cash, enterprise,
Go ahead, take everything.
But, there's one thing left that's mine It catches the light, beams blue then pink
Yes you can never take away my brand new diamond ring.
Notes from the poet:
This poem is about the role of women in the world and how we are often reduced to
trivial things and dismissed. The idea of the brand-new diamond ring symbolizes
glamour, which may seem superficially material, yet its beauty serves as a reclamation
of what we contribute to the world.
