Diamond Days

Written By: Milena Milovanovic

Sequined satin, lilac haze,

Dim lit curtains, soft draped lace

Idyllic town, one built on dreams,

Saturated roses line the streets

Thinking about those diamond days,

back when we’d waste away our lives

I’m thinking about those diamond days,

You know we could not get more high

Somber starlight beams on your face,

Optimistic darkness, shadow play

Conscious mysteries lurk while you sleep,

Nothing is ever what it seems

Thinking about those diamond days,

Back, when we never thought to cry

I’m thinking about those diamond days,

When we weren’t afraid to try

Transatlantic poetry,

A modern mystic’s rosary,

Pretty clothes that you shall wear,

Silver, gold no price to spare

Sleepy sighs and lullabies,

Doppelgangers hypnotise

Maybe you could rest a day,

But don’t let your angels fly away

Dreaming of those diamond days,

The best of all our lives

I’m dreaming of those diamond days,

But now it’s time to say Goodbye.

Notes from the poet:

When writing this poem, I aimed to make it as cinematic as possible. I was particularly

inspired by David Lynch films and his depiction of Hollywood and dreaming. These

stories often center around women, showing a sense of empathy toward them despite

the cruelty of the world. I tried to create the feeling that the speaker is looking through

rose-tinted glasses, clouded by a deep sense of nostalgia.
