My name is Milena, and I am a 17 year old Sydney based poet and aspiring singer-songwriter. I am also interested in ghostwriting lyrics for other artists. My main inspiration comes from the art that I love and the idea of living life through it. Recently, a lot of my work has focused on the concept of "wasting the dawn" and the fleeting nature of life. One of my goals is to make my writing as cinematic as possible while capturing a deep sense of nostalgia for times long past. I am deeply influenced by my love for rock and roll, poetry, and film, which is reflected in the references I make and the tone of my work. In my writing, I try to explore my relationship with femininity and my place in this world as a woman, especially in a society where femininity is often viewed as weak or lacking substance. I aim to express an air of softness, like looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses as a way of living life to the fullest. I also address themes of mortality, often referencing the nostalgic way people view pop culture and iconic stories, such as the death of Laurel Canyon, which was marked by tragedy and later gentrification. This along with long gone artists and dreams has been very present in my work.
My core values are that of treating others with kindness and trying to make the most of this world despite the cruelty of politicians and other people in power. I think that it is more important than ever to uplift female voices and encourage the creation of art as a rebellion or even escape. I would love to write as much as possible and hope to release some music soon.
